asphericon is celebrating its anniversary – 10 years of ‘making the difference in optics’.

In these days asphericon is celebrating its tenth anniversary. From its origins as a start-up venture from the Friedrich-Schiller-University, asphericon can now claim to be one of the leading players in the production of superior aspherical components. The company can look back on an overall successful decade of continuous and sustained growth.

The successful company story began on May 17 2001 with the establishment of lambda technology GmbH. Two co-workers – company founders Sven R. Kiontke und Alexander W. Zschäbitz – started at that time to develop, produce and sale aspherical optics. asphericon GmbH presently employs just under 50 staff at its premises in Jena and supplies more than 400 companies across the globe as an independent specialist in aspheres, free forms, parabolic mirrors, cylinders and axicons.

“Our thanks at this time go out above all to our business partners and customers, who have for years accompanied and supported our development. We would like to extend particularly warm thanks to our staff, whose daily dedication and enormous passion have contributed so much to our success story. Without this common striving, asphericon’s current success would be unthinkable,” says managing director and co-founder Alexander W. Zschäbitz.

In recent years asphericon GmbH has continuously expanded its manufacturing capacities. Alongside the production of aspherical optics, the service portfolio has been further enriched by the addition of an in-house coating department and the company's very own asphericon optical design division. A further milestone has been the very recent market introduction of the ion-based finishing technology (asphericon ION-Finish™). The last few years have also seen the expansion of the international sales network into such places as Japan and South Africa.

As co-founder and technical director Sven R. Kiontke underlines: “The development, production and sales of optical components of above-average quality has been our defining aspiration for the last ten years, as it will continue to be for the next ten. asphericon has come to technological maturity, now has an established international presence and has considerably expanded its portfolio of products and services. We want to use our technical expertise as the basis from which we can pursue the next stages of our development. And we never want to lose sight of the overarching aim of leaving our customers with that good feeling they get when they buy our products and services.”

In order to be able to meet market challenges and act in a more sustainable and customer-oriented way, asphericon GmbH is in the process of constructing its new corporate headquarter in Jena. The new building combines a production, development and administrative complex under one roof and will be ready for occupancy in the third quarter of 2011.
