asphericon wins Industry Award 2011 for technological innovation in the category “Optical Technology”

asphericon GmbH has received the Industry Award 2011 in the category “Optical Technology” for the innovative “asphericon ION-Finish™” processing method. The prize is awarded annually at the Hannover Messe for the most innovative product developments and new products on the market.

For the first time ever, asphericon ION-Finish™ ensures ion-based finishing of optical components on complex curved surfaces. Contour errors can be corrected with great time efficiency and therefore high form precision is achieved that exceeds the highest current international standards. Unlike current technology, a wide variety of shapes and materials can be processed with this method.

“With the ION-Finish™ technology introduced last year, we offer our customers the opportunity to reach a new dimension in precision with surface finishing. We are pleased by the jury’s decision, as it also serves as an incentive for us to continue developing the technology in the coming months and make it accessible to even more customers”, says Technical Manager Sven R. Kiontke. 

The Industry Award has been awarded to innovative industry solutions since 2006. The winners in 14 categories were selected by a jury of experts consisting of professors, scientists, journalists and industry experts. A total of more than 500 submissions were evaluated. The initiator of the Industry Award, Rainer Kölmel, on the award: “We congratulate the winners in all categories. They have won from a variety of submissions and can rightfully term their innovation the best solution in their respective category.“
